  • Dutchess County Raid Exposes Unlicensed Cannabis Shop Peddling Unsafe Products

A popular smoke shop in Red Hook, Dutchess County, NY, has been shut down after state investigators found it was selling illegal cannabis products that reportedly made customers sick.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Red Hook Police Department officers assisted the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) Enforcement Team during an inspection of Red Hook Exotics at 7484 South Broadway. Authorities said they discovered and seized numerous illegal cannabis items — including flower, edibles, and concentrates. Some seized products were untested and from out of state, and several had extremely high THC levels; police noted one brand of edibles contained 5,000 mg of THC.

OCM officials issued a violation notice and the business was “sealed,” according to the Red Hook Police Department.

Daniel Haughney, Director of Enforcement and Investigations at the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, said, “OCM’s Enforcement Team is working across the state to make sure the law is followed and that only licensed businesses are allowed to sell cannabis products. This ensures that the public is buying safer, tested products that meet New York State standards. The inspection in Red Hook led to an order to seal an unlicensed location — a clear reminder that illegal activity will not be tolerated in New York.”

The OCM says it is committed to protecting communities, supporting compliant businesses, and helping grow the industry in the right way.

  • Houlton Man Arrested in Alleged Cigarette Theft, Accused of Violating Probation

HOULTON, Maine — Ezra Brady, 34, was arrested Monday evening after allegedly stealing cigarettes from a local smoke shop and fleeing on a bicycle.

Brady is charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, a Class C felony because of a prior record, and was also placed on a probation hold.

Police say Brady entered the Maine Smoke Shop at 139 North Road at 6:34 p.m. on Nov. 10 wearing a black hoodie and a black surgical mask. He removed four cartons of cigarettes from the self‑service area and fled on a bicycle. A store clerk chased him, recovered the cigarettes and provided in‑store video to police.

Houlton Police Corporal Austin White and Officer Joshua Robbins responded. White located Brady at Nickel‑Back Redemption at 83 North Street wearing clothing that matched the clerk’s description. Officers recovered the bicycle, the face mask and duct tape used in the incident.

Brady was transported to the Aroostook County Jail on the probation hold. Bail was set at $1,000 cash on the theft charge.

  • MPD/ABCA Shut Down Three Shops — Puff Puff Pass, Smoke Shop Inc., and YouGrowGurl Ordered Closed (PoPville)

The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) last week closed three unlicensed cannabis retailers — Puff Puff Pass, Smoke Shop Inc., and YouGroGurl — after finding illegal cannabis sales and operations that posed an imminent danger to public health and safety.

This was the second closure for YouGroGurl; it had previously been shut down for illegal cannabis sales at a different location on February 13, 2025.

Since that law took effect on July 15, 2024, joint agency efforts have padlocked 84 illegal cannabis businesses.

  • Zimbabwe’s Tobacco Plantings Surge 22% — What’s Behind the Boom?

Zimbabwe’s Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has reported that farmers planted 27,215 hectares of tobacco for the 2025–26 season — a 22% rise from last season’s 22,392 hectares, which generated $1.2 billion in sales. The increase is notable given TIMB’s recent disclosure that only 66% of farmers had registered by the deadline two weeks ago.

Regional totals show strong gains: Mashonaland East led with a 41% jump, followed by Manicaland (17%) and Mashonaland West (15.4%). Midlands and Masvingo also posted increases, though on smaller scales. TIMB added that a record 23,517 hectares will be irrigated this season, an important development considering small-scale farmers produced more than 85% of last year’s crop.

Zimbabwe remains Africa’s largest tobacco producer and the world’s sixth biggest, supporting over 160,000 households and accounting for more than half of the country’s agricultural exports.
