- On June 17th, 2025, I entered Maine Smoke Shop to purchase cigarettes. Also, I legally use medical marijuana and hold a valid Maine MMJ card. After purchasing two packs of Crown Red 100s and upon exiting I began browsing pipes. A woman approached me from behind politely asking if I had used marijuana that day. I answered honestly, saying yes and without any apparently evidence of impairment or Inebriation, I was ordered to leave the store immediately due to alleged inebriation. I Encourage them to call the police east time they threatened to call the police which was over 20 times. I was not disruptive, impaired, or consuming anything on site. I was targeted based on my race as a Black man, not my behavior. I was publicly humiliated and treated like a threat. Employees at this business, all white-are, have been known to also use cannabis , even working without any consequence. This double standard, where I was removed while employees can legally/recreationally consume marijuana nearby, reflects racial bias and violates the Maine he Maine Human Rights Act's protections against race-based discrimination in public accommodations.The manager's actions reflect selective enforcement based on race.
