HOULTON, Maine — Ezra Brady, 34, was arrested Monday evening after allegedly stealing cigarettes from a local smoke shop and fleeing on a bicycle.
Brady is charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, a Class C felony because of a prior record, and was also placed on a probation hold.
Police say Brady entered the Maine Smoke Shop at 139 North Road at 6:34 p.m. on Nov. 10 wearing a black hoodie and a black surgical mask. He removed four cartons of cigarettes from the self‑service area and fled on a bicycle. A store clerk chased him, recovered the cigarettes and provided in‑store video to police.
Houlton Police Corporal Austin White and Officer Joshua Robbins responded. White located Brady at Nickel‑Back Redemption at 83 North Street wearing clothing that matched the clerk’s description. Officers recovered the bicycle, the face mask and duct tape used in the incident.
Brady was transported to the Aroostook County Jail on the probation hold. Bail was set at $1,000 cash on the theft charge.
